Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at M&T Bank.
Intern
I had 2 interviews for the TIP Intern position, and they were mostly behavioral. It was pretty easy, and the technical questions weren't very technical.
- Tell me about yourself.
- How do you handle conflict?
- Why are you interested in M&T?
Intern
It began with an HR screening, which was basically a behavioral interview. After that, I spoke with the hiring manager. They didn't ask me to do any math, but instead asked about my skills and experiences and wanted me to give examples of when I've used them.
- Can you tell me about the specific Excel features you're familiar with and how willing you are to pick up more complex calculations?
Intern
The interview involved about 5-6 SQL questions covering writing queries, joins, indexing, and optimizing performance. Some questions required solving problems with SQL queries. Other questions were about general programming and problem-solving. They also asked behavioral questions about communication and teamwork. It was a mix of technical and soft skills.
- Can you explain joins, like left joins, etc.?
