I had one interview in person with the manager of the counter and another interview over the phone with the region's M.R.O. I was also required to submit a business plan for the counter detailing my strategies for boosting sales and foot traffic, how we would exceed our fiscal year target, and methods for expanding our customer base.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • What's your approach to driving more sales and customer visits to the counter?
  • How would you support and manage employees who are finding it difficult to meet expectations?

The interview process had two parts. I didn't do the group interview for the first one because I already worked at the MAC store for a different company. The first interview was with a panel of three people: a regional manager, a general manager, and an assistant manager. After some initial questions, we moved on to the makeup demo. The interviewer, who was a store trainer, gave my model a scenario that the model couldn't tell me. I had to figure it out by asking questions. I had 15 minutes and was told that makeup skills weren't the main focus, but rather how well I connected with the client and explained products. I passed this and was called for a second interview with two different assistant managers. One was really nice, but the other one, who led the interview, was super rude and disinterested, barely making eye contact and acting aggressive. She even gave me 'feedback' during the interview about how I could have said things differently, which felt nitpicky and didn't make much sense.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • How would you go about motivating tenured employees who have a negative attitude?
  • What's your approach to dealing with combative employees?
  • Can you describe how you would investigate and understand the scenario presented during the makeup demo?
