It's a long interview process. You'll have multiple interviews, including a video call, a phone call, and an in-person meeting. For the in-person interview, you need to bring a model to demonstrate your application techniques. Make sure to focus on properly sanitizing all products and your hands. Give your model clear instructions.

I applied through Nordstrom to work at the MAC Cosmetics counter part-time. First, I had a quick phone interview with Nordstrom HR. Then, I had an in-person interview with the Cosmetics Department Manager, followed by an interview with the MAC Cosmetics Counter Manager. On my second try applying, after passing the counter manager interview, I interviewed with the Counter Manager and the MAC Regional Resident Trainer. Next, I had to bring in a guest and do a full makeup demonstration on them. They really examine your technique, product knowledge, body language, and verbal communication. After the demo, I got feedback. Then, I had a phone interview with the MAC Senior Retail Manager (these are usually phone interviews unless the SRM is in the area). The whole process can take over a month, but it's not super hard. I suggest researching the brand's philosophy and history; mentioning Viva Glam or Back 2 MAC would be great.

The interview process for the Artist role involved a technical skills assessment where I had to recreate a look from a magazine using my own model. I was also asked basic customer service and situational questions. I received a call back and an offer the same day. The onboarding took about two months before I could start. I was told that permanent artist positions are typically filled internally by freelance artists who prove themselves. Demonstrating strong technical ability, sales skills, and customer service greatly increases the chances of securing a permanent role. The company prioritizes sales and customer service skills above all else.
