Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lyra Health.
Technical Recruiter
The interview process here was quite long and memorable, but not in a good way. I was initially excited to interview with Lyra, but I'm ultimately glad it didn't work out. The communication from the recruiter often felt last-minute. After my final interview, there was a significant delay, over a week and a half, before the recruiter contacted me, and when they finally did, it was to inform me via email that I wasn't selected. I invested 3-4+ hours and completed 5 interviews, yet I never received any feedback from the recruiting team. It felt like my time wasn't valued, and I was treated as just another candidate. Regarding the interviews themselves, the initial recruiter and hiring manager interviews primarily focused on behavioral questions. Meeting the team after the hiring manager interview was a decent experience, though it felt scripted. The final interview with an engineering leader was particularly concerning; not only were the questions unexpected, but they also delved into personal territory, asking about my childhood and family, which I found triggering. I don't believe the questions asked by this engineering stakeholder provided any relevant insights or demonstrated any of my technical abilities. From a recruiter's perspective, I would never endorse such questions to my colleagues. There appears to be a disconnect between the engineering and People teams. For a company focused on mental health, I was thoroughly disappointed with the overall experience, expecting more awareness and a better process, especially given the company's mission.
- Considering all the people who know you – from your childhood, family, friends, and coworkers – what insights would they share about you?
- What is a skill that you were proficient in as a 6-year-old that you continue to excel at today?
Recruiter
The recruiter I spoke with seemed to have low EQ and made assumptions about me coming from a large tech company, even though they had prior experience in big tech themselves. They assumed my background meant I couldn't keep up with a startup's pace, despite my startup experience. I was surprised to advance to a take-home assignment where I had to create a recruiting strategy in under an hour. They responded quickly, moving me to video interviews. I wondered if they'd use my work from the assignment. The video interviews themselves were okay, with two interviewers who seemed enthusiastic and asked typical questions. However, the interviewers were late to the Zoom call, causing a slightly awkward start, though I tried to ignore it due to potential tech issues. I was a bit taken aback that their DEI strategy is just starting and seems reactive, possibly due to investor pressure. Investors were mentioned a lot, suggesting they heavily influence the company's direction right now.
- Given your experience at a larger tech company, do you believe you can adapt to working at a startup with fewer resources?
Recruiter
I work as a recruiter and I know how important it is to reply to people. The recruiter I talked to at Lyra Health didn't send any follow up emails after our first chat, which was a bummer. Recruiters really show what a company is like, and it's key to keep a good connection with everyone who applies, whether they're a good fit or not.
- What kind of jobs do you recruit for?
