The interview experience was quite unusual. It began with a phone interview with the hiring manager, which felt awkward due to basic questions, likely because it was his first post-grad job. Before proceeding to an in-person interview, the recruiter assigned 'homework,' which felt strange and somewhat demeaning for an executive-level role paying over $130k. Finding the interview location was difficult as the recruiter didn't clarify there were two buildings with the same address a half-mile apart, and the entrances resembled windows. Parking wasn't validated. The interview room felt like a 'fish-bowl.' The work environment was highly unprofessional, with a very casual dress code and a generally 'hipster' vibe, which was a culture shock. The presence of multiple bathrooms added to the awkwardness. I had a one-on-one interview with four people, all seemingly in their mid-20s, who asked questions primarily focused on my skills, despite my resume clearly detailing my expertise. Most of them were awkward, inarticulate, and new to the corporate world. I'm in my early 30s, and I didn't notice anyone older, suggesting they might not hire many older individuals. While this company might suit some, it's not for me.

Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

Communications were slow and disjointed. The questions asked for what seemed like a senior management role were quite poor and clearly not well-thought-out; they felt very generic. The process was extremely mechanical, with little to no time for me to ask about the role or company. After three seemingly good interview meetings, I was told they were proceeding with other candidates with stronger tech and analytical skills. However, there was hardly any analytical assessment or testing in this process, making it hard to understand their decision, especially after just two 30-minute phone calls and without seeing my practical abilities through an actual assessment or hypothetical review.

Confirmed questions5 questions
  • They inquired about driver and rider metrics without providing any context or additional analytical data or variables.
  • Asked for examples of leadership.
  • Asked several Lyft-specific questions about hypothetical driver/rider scenarios, again with minimal or no prior context or data-based variables.

The interview process was really impressive. The recruiters were great to work with – supportive, informative, and pleasant. They kept me in the loop at every stage, so I never felt lost. During the on-site interviews, everyone was really accommodating. The questions they asked were practical and directly related to the role. After each call and in-person chat, I understood the role, company culture, and expectations better.
