I've shopped at Lush for ages and always loved them, but this interview totally changed my mind. The person running the work trial/interview clearly hadn't even glanced at my CV, asking me about my last job and stuff, which made me feel like just another number. Then I had to do a floor trial shift for nearly an hour, where you're expected to approach customers, chat with them, and demo products. It felt like they wanted me to do the job with zero training. When you're hiring for a Christmas temp role, you have to remember many applicants might be young and new to working, so putting them under that much pressure isn't fair. Trial shifts have always been a bad experience for me, and Lush was no different. They're outdated because you can't expect people to know how to do things without any training.

Group Presentation Other

It was a group interview that went for 2 hours. We had to start by introducing ourselves and talking about our favourite product. Then we were split into groups to make a poster about a product and present it. We were allowed to use our phones to research the product's ingredients, ethical facts, who we would recommend it to, and what other products we'd suggest selling alongside it. After that, we had to pair up with someone, recommend two products to go with their favorite, and present our recommendations to the whole group. We got to make a bath bomb at the end and received a free sample. I really enjoyed the other candidates and the activity itself, but I didn't get the job because I didn't know enough about the products, which was disappointing since I had prepared a lot. I think in group settings, it's hard to stand out unless you're super confident. They seemed more focused on interview performance than prior experience, even though I have years of retail experience, including management. It was a shame there wasn't an individual interview to discuss my background or product knowledge one-on-one.
