Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lush.
Supervisor
The staff wasn't really friendly or welcoming. They had me serve customers on the shop floor for about half an hour without showing me where anything was or telling me what to do. The manager who led the interview seemed like they couldn't be bothered to interact.
- What do you aim to achieve in the next six months for the store?
Operations Manager
had a video interview with an HR executive, then went in person for a panel interview with one person from HR and two people from the team I would be working with, one of whom would be my direct manager.
- What is motivating your job search?
- Can you share an experience where you successfully navigated a difficult problem?
Supervisor
I applied for a supervisor position and after sending my cover letter and CV, I got an email for an interview. The interview had three parts: first, a presentation where I had to read an anonymous customer review and suggest improvements. Then, a trial shift on the shop floor, which was pretty quiet. They split the two candidates into a leader and motivator with roles that weren't super clear. We were told we'd get feedback during the shift to help us improve, which made sense given Lush's feedback culture. But, the manager was mostly absent during the trial shift and didn't give me any feedback. I ended up giving feedback to the sales assistants myself and tried to motivate them with games, including product training and profit-boosting sales techniques. The last part was a short interview, but by then, the manager's lack of presence made it feel like they'd already decided. I was told I'd hear back the following Monday but never did, so I assume I didn't get the job. I didn't get any detailed feedback either, so I'm not sure what went wrong.
- What's the main chance for improvement on the shop floor?
