Software Development Engineer
I applied and got a quick response about the process. The first round was a coding round with a supportive and engaging interviewer who asked a basic coding question. The second round was a System Design interview with three interviewers. I was asked to design an Amazon-like e-commerce system, minus the payment functionality. I didn't do well here because I missed several important aspects, but the interviewer calmly discussed what I had put on screen. I didn't ask about usage, DAU, memory, etc., as the prompt was to make the design scalable and highly available. Just a heads-up: if you don't hear back in 8 days, assume you weren't selected because they don't follow up if they're not moving forward with your profile.
- Coding question in Java, with IDE usage permitted as the focus was on the solution, not syntax.
- System design for an Amazon-like e-commerce system.
Software Engineer
The interview was for a remote system architecture role in India. The main focus was on designing WhatsApp, which was unexpected as it's not an enterprise application. I only managed to provide a high-level overview, and they seemed to expect more detail. It was just a bad day for me.
- Can you walk me through the system design for WhatsApp?
Software Engineer
The first step was an online assessment with two coding questions. Then, there was a virtual video interview that included both behavioral and technical questions.
- Reverse a string
- Reverse an array
- Reverse a sentence with words
