Store Manager
My coworker told me about a Store Manager opening at an outlet and I sent my resume. My coworker forwarded it to their DM, and then I was asked to call another store manager for a phone interview. I answered their questions and scenarios confidently. The DM emailed me to set up an in-person store interview, which was over an hour away. I was asked to pick out outfits and give a work experience timeline with coaching examples. It went well, and they said I'd have a phone interview with HR and the VP of stores. Two weeks later, they scheduled that interview. They asked for examples of coaching and reviewing employees, and also about my work experience and timeline, similar to the previous interview. I gave lots of examples and achievements. I have 12 years of sales experience and traveled a lot, so I felt qualified. After the interview, the DM said they'd follow up in a few days. It took a week and a half to hear back, and they said they were continuing the process and would decide in 4 days. I never heard back after almost a month and a half of interviews and emails. The whole process lacked organization and communication was terrible. They discouraged me from applying to a lower-volume store because they couldn't match my pay, and instead had me apply to a further store. The company shouldn't post manager jobs if they plan to promote internally.
- Can you give an example of a situation where you had to coach an employee?
Store Manager
The connection with the District Manager was good and very personable. Clear expectations were set and the whole process followed the timeline that was spoken about. They were also clear about the number of openings and what the future could look like. I don't have any complaints about the process itself, but when I had to use it for hiring, it could take too long, and we would lose good candidates to other more speedy companies.
- In what ways do you envision contributing to the future of the company?
Assistant Store Manager
It was both easy and challenging. If you have enough experience, you can succeed. The interviewers were so friendly that it put me at ease. After many questions, they took me to the sales floor to observe my selling skills and how I interact with customers.
- Do you have any previous experience in a similar position?
- In your opinion, how would you deal with a demanding customer?
- How would you manage a workplace conflict among your team members?
