First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lucas Systems (Pennsylvania).
Software Engineer
I applied online and HR called me within about a week. I spoke with HR twice in a few days to get the paperwork sorted out. Then, they scheduled me for an onsite interview. When I got to the interview, I had to take a 30-minute test to assess my programming skills. After that, I had a few short interviews with different teams that I might end up working with. The questions weren't too hard, mostly just about understanding how I think. It felt like they weren't very organized and you could sense the stress in the room. I also want to mention that HR really pressures you to give very specific information in the application they make you fill out. They basically demand you to list your previous salaries and bonuses, and also state your salary expectations (you can't say negotiable). I don't think it's any company's business to know about past salaries and bonuses. Because of the stressful environment and the intrusive personal information they require, I would not recommend this company at all.
- Were there any unusual questions?
Software Engineer
I met the hiring rep at a career fair and then got a call about a week later. They had me come in and I met with a bunch of people, all separately. First, I took a written test on basic CS stuff, like 30 mins. Then, two people met with me (individually) and we went over my answers, and they asked me questions about them. It wasn't super hard, just detailed. In the second interview, I met a manager and then the CEO. This time the questions were all about why I wanted to join the company, my 5-year goals, etc. The hardest part was the manager, who said the job is tough and requires lots of extra hours to keep up. Meeting the CEO was cool though, he seemed nice.
- Can you explain the difference between an array and a linked list, and when you would use each?
- Can you describe when to use an array versus a linked list and explain your choices.
Software Engineer
The first interview was a phone call, it was pretty simple. The second interview was very laid back, they start with basic questions and then move to harder ones to gauge your knowledge. The third interview was with the CEO and CFO, and it was more of a get-to-know-you type of meeting.
- For this position, SQL knowledge is a must. You will be required to know basic SQL queries and be able to learn more from there.
