First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Luby's.
Assistant Manager
First I spoke with a recruiter, which was a new thing for me. Then I got an interview with the head of HR Hiring, and we met in person. The regional president jumped in for part of that interview. The hiring process itself was okay. The GM at my training spot was amazing, but working for the GM at my assigned location was awful. I suspect many good young managers have left because of him, and I'm one of them!
- Can you tell me about your weaknesses?
Accounting Analyst
The interview process included normal interview questions and specific accounting questions. A test was given to assess my understanding of accounting and how I would handle different situations. I met with the hiring manager for the first interview and the team for the second interview.
- How would you handle specific scenarios?
- Can you describe the types of reconciliations you have managed?
- Tell me about improvements or accomplishments from your previous job.
Cashier
They asked for my resume and then asked some questions about my previous employers and how much they paid me. They also asked about my availability. After that, I was asked to talk a little about myself. The interview finished then, and they said they'd let me know their decision.
- Do you have prior work experience? If yes, where did you work, for how long, and what was your salary?
- Tell me about yourself.
General Manager
It was pretty easy to get hired, just answer the questions like a triathlete would. When talking to the recruiter, always pick the most hardworking answers.
- Would you rather hike up a mountain or watch a movie? Always choose the toughest answer to get hired.
- Would you rather run a marathon or read a book?
