First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at LPL Financial.
Software Engineer Intern
So, I had two interviews, one was behavioral and the other was technical. The behavioral one was basically just talking about my resume, my good and bad points, a time I messed up, and any leadership stuff. The technical interview was super easy, they asked about authentication versus authorization and database indexing.
- Could you explain the difference between authentication and authorization and give me an example of each?
- What is authentication versus authorization and provide an example of each.
Senior Software Engineer
The interview process was two stages. The first stage was with a senior developer and the hiring manager. The second stage was with a director and a VP. I had concerns about needing a flexible schedule for my kids, which I discussed. After the VP and I agreed my schedule was manageable, I received an offer for $80/hr, working at 5 pm. Later that night, the recruiter texted to say the offer was rescinded. Apparently, the manager told his team about bringing me on, and the team then expressed 'concerns' about my schedule and ability to contribute. I think I dodged a bullet. It's concerning when subordinates can override leadership decisions about scheduling and operations.
- Any experience with Angular?
- Can you tell me about your Javascript skills?
- Standard JS questions.
Software Developer
I went through this company's interview process in February and March. It was very long, with a lot of time between each step, sometimes weeks to get a response. First was a recruiter screen, then a chat with the team manager, and finally a technical interview. Each step took about 2-3 weeks. The first two were typical behavioral questions. The technical part had some riddles, not coding, and then I was asked to do a reverse sort. They didn't really check coding skills, and the interviewer ended it early without feedback even when I asked. I was rejected because they said my coding was too weak, which was weird since they never assessed my coding. I asked what that meant, and never heard back. It felt very unstructured and poorly done. They weren't clear about what skills they wanted and didn't test coding at all. The technical interview focused on riddles and my resume. They also didn't respect my time, with long waits for replies, even while the recruiter was active on LinkedIn.
- Can you implement a reverse sort using any programming language?
