Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Loyola University Chicago.
Student Worker
I recently graduated from LUC but had been working in the same department as a student for four years. My former supervisor suggested I apply for a full-time position after graduation. The interview seemed positive, with multiple people complimenting my previous work. I felt good about it and was told a decision might be made by the end of the week. Three weeks later, after no response and reaching out to Loyola HR and the department, I received a generic rejection email from HR. It was disappointing not to get the job, especially after being a student employee for years and getting a recommendation. What bothered me most was the informal ending to my candidacy and relationship with the department, which felt unlike the "care for the whole person" I expected from Loyola. This experience left me with a negative impression of my undergraduate institution.
- Generic interview questions related to the role.
Intern
I went through one interview that was about an hour long with two people. It was mostly about my past experiences, tough situations I've dealt with, and how I managed them. They kept it pretty chill and conversational, which made it easy to talk. There weren't any technical parts, so I just focused on giving solid answers using the STAR method. The interviewers were into it and friendly, so it felt more like a chat than an interview.
- What are your goals for this internship?
- What would you do if you mistakenly gave a student wrong information?
- Could you introduce yourself?
Student Worker
I got a call, then had a phone interview, and finally went in for an in-person interview. They ask a few questions to see if you'll fit into the office culture. It was really nice and cordial, with no pressure at all. I recommend it to anyone at Loyola.
- Can you tell me about your resume and experience related to this position?
- What's a critical thinking question you can answer?
- Have you worked in service before?
