First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores.
District Manager
It was a very professional and family-oriented interview process. I had dinner with them and then spent a full day interviewing and touring the company headquarters. They are a good company with strong values and are very upfront about the demands of the position, not sugar coating anything. I liked the company and the people, but the role and lifestyle aren't for me.
- How would you handle performing manual labor tasks like scrubbing toilets at a truck stop?
District Manager
I applied online and was contacted by a divisional recruiter to gauge my interest. We scheduled an initial phone interview, but the recruiter was 15 minutes late. I called him, left a message, and he called back apologizing for being late due to getting caught up in something. The interview went well, and we agreed to a subsequent in-person interview with a district manager, who would call me back to set it up. I didn't hear anything for over a week, so I called back. He apologized again, saying he was busy, and set up a day and time. On my way to the interview, I realized I might be 5 minutes late due to traffic, so I called the store to let the district manager know. The store said the district manager wasn't there and nobody knew about the interview. It was over an hour drive. When I got there, I was told another manager from another store would interview me. About 30 minutes after the scheduled time, an assistant manager from a nearby store showed up with a blank sheet of paper, and we interviewed. It went well, and he said he would submit my information. I called the divisional recruiter about 4-5 times since then to check the status, and he no longer answered or returned messages. He called me once saying they were still interested and he was working on getting me in front of senior leadership. To this day, he still hasn't responded. I emailed him as a last attempt, and he responded quickly to call him, which I did right away. He didn't answer and never returned the voicemail.
- The questions were not challenging at all.
District Manager
I applied online for the District manager position and then got an email inviting me to a career fair to meet with recruiters. After driving for over an hour, I met with Charles Young, who apparently hadn't even read my resume. He spent 10 minutes telling me I didn't meet the requirements, which he should have known from my resume, and also that I wouldn't have accepted an entry-level position given my experience. My recommendation to Love's management is to update your career video, as my experience suggests it's just a marketing tool to attract talent. Perhaps invest in training your recruiters to at least read resumes before inviting candidates for interviews. I think Charles Young might have been a manager.
- Can you discuss your past experience?
