A recruiter from Lorien reached out about this job. We had a 30-minute call. The recruiter seemed to think it went well and said they'd connect with the hiring manager and let me know the outcome. That was it, though. Never heard back from them, even after multiple follow-up emails and LinkedIn messages. I was ghosted and never understood why. It's pretty unprofessional, especially from a company that recruits for so many roles. I wouldn't recommend Lorien based on this experience.
- Can you describe your background and its relevance to this role?
Recruitment Business Partner
Had an initial call with the Internal Recruitment Manager, who was really nice. The next stage was with one of the Directors. They were extremely un-interested in speaking with me and 30 minutes late. Quite condescending. They thought I'd be better in a 'Resourcer' role following my 5 years Client Management experience, so clearly didn't listen to a word I said or anything highlighted in the interview, but I knew they weren't interested in the first 10 minutes anyway. Didn't see the interview as a 2 way street at all and didn't tell me anything about the role I was interviewing for, just asked me tons of intense questions.
- What research have you conducted on the client?

A recruiter hit me up on LinkedIn and thought I'd be a good fit for a role. They asked me some stuff about where I've worked before. Then, I had an online interview/assessment. This involved recording 3-minute video answers to common interview questions and taking a 90-minute programming test that wasn't specific to any language. It felt a bit shady because I didn't know upfront it was a contractor gig for s.com and not the company they were hiring for. The whole process seemed set up to trick me into thinking I was applying directly to the company that offered the contract. The recruiter said I did great and would hear back about another interview, but then... radio silence.
- What makes you want to join [Company scom was contracting for?]
- Can you share a new technical concept you picked up at work and explain your motivation for using it?
- Can you tell me about your past employment?
Resourcer
Applying was straightforward. I sent in my application via the Lorien website and also messaged Nigel (Internal Recruitment Manager) on LinkedIn to signal my interest. Nigel gave me a quick call to chat about my background and why I was keen on recruitment. He was really easy to talk to and put me at ease. Next, I had an in-person interview with two Account Managers. They had quite different styles – one asked competency-based questions, and the other just had more of an informal chat about me as a person. Both made me feel comfortable, which is rare for recruitment firms as they usually like to test your resilience. I got the job offer pretty soon after the face-to-face.
- How do you handle working under pressure? Can you provide an example?
- Can you share an instance of meeting a tight deadline?
- Tell me about your experience with competitiveness.
