First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lord Abbett & Co..
Consultant
It was a very behavioral interview, more like a conversation where we discussed my background and experiences. It's an entry-level role, open to new grads, so not much experience is needed. They seemed to be looking more for the right traits and characteristics.
- Can you tell me about your resume?
Consultant
I was contacted by a recruiter from a third party about this opportunity. My phone interview was the following week. A Regional Consultant team leader called and wanted to get to know me, asking high-level questions like "why this college, why finance, why sales, etc.". I then had two face-to-face interviews, though I'd heard in the past it was usually just one. I met with 2 regional consultants and a few higher-ups. They went through my resume, and then I shadowed a Regional Consultant for 40 minutes. They asked things like "Tell me some current market news" and "Tell me about yourself," nothing too technical, but they did want to know about their products and history/fund awards. The second round was similar. The overall process was good, with a young atmosphere among the RCs. I would have accepted the offer if I hadn't received a better opportunity.
- Can you tell me what the current fed funds rate is?
- What about the 10 year treasury rate?
- What are two things you liked about college?
Consultant
I applied in mid-August via a referral. About two weeks later, I got invited to do a recorded HireVue interview. Then, a week after that, I had my first round of interviews with two advisor consultants. They let me know via email exactly one week after that first interview that they weren't moving forward with my application. My advice to them would be to speed up the process and be more transparent. The whole thing took about a month and a half, which is a bit long but I get it because there were over 300 applicants. It's a great company with a strong reputation, I really liked the culture, and I'd definitely consider applying again.
- Could you try to sell me a vacation?
- How do you stay updated on capital markets?
