Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lone Star Steakhouse.
Waitress
They responded really quickly and I thought the questions were easy. They made their expectations clear. It felt like a friendly place with friendly people, and the place was clean and tidy.
- Were you prompt and punctual?
- Tell me about your customer service experience.
Server
I actually went through two interviews. The general manager seemed a bit catty and focused on superficial aspects of hiring, but I got a second interview with the front of house manager. He asked me about my previous work experience and if I was willing to learn and work hard. I was happy to get a second interview with a manager who cared more about work ethic than a 'mean girls' attitude. I was offered the job after the second interview, conditional on training and a validation process.
- Do you have prior serving experience?
Server
I saw a "now hiring" sign and went in to grab an application. After I filled it out, the host took it to the manager and told me to come back the next Thursday between 2 and 4. When I returned, the manager conducted a brief interview asking things like why I wanted the job, my availability, and how my friends would describe me. They mentioned I'd need a food handler's permit and alcohol card (or get them soon), followed by a 5-day training period, after which I'd be hired if I followed instructions.
- What makes you want to be a server here?
- What are your friends like when they describe you?
