& Process

Had a couple of phone interviews and then an in-house technical. First up was a recruiter chat where they were super helpful explaining the company and culture, and they really stressed how much travel is involved in the PS role, asking if it was an issue. Then I had a chat with the Professional Services manager. We talked about my CV, experience, and goals, and they threw in some technical questions related to my background. The final interview was with the PS manager and the director of Labs/PS. We discussed my interest in IT security, where I get my news, what got me into it, and what keeps me here. There were some open-ended technical questions about my home OS choice and preferences between Windows/Linux. We also just chatted about malware, the current security landscape, and future security topics. The coolest part was when the director wrote a random string on the whiteboard while I was talking to the manager, and then I had to describe it in as much detail as possible using a regular expression, no matter the dialect. I got the offer before I even got home!

You will go through a very long interview process that seems to never end - with many, many people. It sounds terrible but it isn't too bad. You will meet with at least one or two people for up to thirty minutes at a time. They each will have their own set of questions. Some will be more technical than others.

First, there was a standard phone call with HR asking typical interview questions. Then, it escalated to a phone call with a technical person who asked some simple technical questions. After that, there was a 3-hour interview split among 8 people. I met with other people in the same role, and even up to the VP. The VP told me he would offer me the job regardless of what the others said, and he did offer it to me during the interview, which was around 5:00 on a Friday. He said to expect a written offer on Monday morning. He didn't negotiate my salary and agreed it was fair, which made me think I might have asked for too little. It was a bit strange that he didn't want to consult his team, especially since he had already dismissed their opinions before I even joined their team. So, I wondered what the point of meeting with everyone else was.
