It was three rounds total, starting with a recruiter phone screen. After that, two virtual interviews, and then the team invited me to meet them in person for a more casual chat about the role. The whole thing was pretty simple and easy.

The recruiter hit me up on linkedin, then followed up with email, text, and a call. We had an initial interview, then they set up interviews with the hiring manager and another senior leader. After that, they totally ghosted me. Radio silence. I get that this is normal recruiter behavior, but it's pretty unprofessional. The interview itself was okay, but the job description online and what the recruiter sent me was different from the role the hiring manager described.

I was looking for a contract gig and this team reached out, saying they were actually trying to grow and maybe bring me on full-time. I had two casual chats with team members, where they asked what I liked to do and probed about my old company's structure, since it was a competitor. It felt like they were figuring out where I'd fit and that it was a done deal. I didn't follow up since I wasn't feeling consulting anymore, and then HR sent a rejection a few weeks later. Which felt pretty unprofessional since they never actually had an opening and I'd had these more personal chats with the team. They should have just told me themselves why it wouldn't work out. Fast forward months, a different recruiter contacts me saying the team wants to move forward. For what role? I asked. She acted like I was the one confused, and I eventually figured out they'd passed my resume to another team for an opening. I asked for a job description because I had no clue what I was interviewing for, but she never sent one. I went into this interview totally unprepared, expecting another casual chat about my experience, but it was way more formal and in a department I knew less about. She didn't explain the role or give any context, just jumped in, assuming I'd applied. It was a standard interview. I knew it was over when about 15-20 minutes in, she switched to letting me ask questions. I sent a thank-you note hinting that I hadn't even applied and to give more background. Her silly, vague reply confirmed it was over. About 6 weeks later, I got the usual HR rejection. Oddly, none of the HR/recruiter emails ever mentioned a job title. I doubt there were ever openings, so why keep reaching out and wasting my time? This is the third consulting firm in this space that's been a disorganized mess. I'd say avoid this industry altogether. There's a serious lack of care for employees and candidates that's rampant in this industry.
