The interview process was a huge waste of time and I don't recommend it. I got an automated Hackerrank assessment which I passed, but then a few days later I got an email saying my application wasn't moving forward. As other people have said, you don't even get to talk to a real person during the whole thing. It's just a terrible company that doesn't care about people's time.

The interview process started with a recruiter call, followed by a call with the engineering manager. After that, there was either a take-home assignment that took about 3-4 hours or a live coding screen. The take-home assignment was reviewed. Then came a virtual onsite, which was about 3.5 hours, likely all in one day. The virtual onsite was mostly standard, but included a presentation on a past project, which was a lot of work for me. I got a standard rejection with no feedback, which was disappointing given the over 10 hours I invested in interviews and prep. It seems like companies don't value my time, so I'll be valuing it more going forward.

Lob's interview process is solid. They moved me through the different stages efficiently, they were well prepared at every step, and everyone was very engaged. It is abundantly clear that they've put a lot of effort into refining the entire process. I think they did a great job in the on-site interview at allowing me to showcase my skills and talk about my background while, at the same time, making sure I had an enjoyable experience. It started with an initial phone screen with the growth engineer/hiring manager, followed by a technical phone screen focusing on technical value fit and technical skills. Then came the on-site interview, which included technical value fit with 2 engineers, a technical challenge with 1 engineer, an informal lunch interview with a designer and an engineer, a technical challenge code review with 1 engineer, a technical skills test with 2 engineers, and a value fit discussion with the 2 founders. The process concluded with a catch-up with the hiring manager, and then an offer. Overall, I was incredibly impressed with the process and I strongly recommend interviewing with Lob.

- They did ask some whiteboarding technical questions that leaned slightly towards the academic (data structures).
- Their technical challenge was more practical and clearly related to their domain (specifically related to their address verification API).
- For the technical challenge, we started by outlining the problem on a whiteboard, talking about different approaches, and then got down to it by writing actual code (they allow you to bring your own laptop, which is nice).
