Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at loanDepot.
Mortgage Loan Officer
The interview process has two steps. First is with the recruiter, where we'll go over the job role, company standards, and benefits. Second is with the hiring manager, where we'll discuss role expectations and what you bring to the table.
- What attracts you to Loan Depot and this specific role?
- How does this position stand out compared to other jobs you've applied for?
- In what ways do you believe Loan Depot distinguishes itself from competitors?
Mortgage Loan Officer
Horrible interview process. There were 8-10 people on a Zoom call. If anyone has participated in this style of interviewing before, knows, the person who goes first is at a disadvantage and the person who goes last has the advantage. I felt "herded" like an animal, that the company didn't even take the time to learn more about me as a candidate, as interviewing for a position is a two-way street in order to find a good company fit. Very impersonal and I could definitely see bias in the selection process. This was definitely a waste of my time and disappointing as I heard loanDepot treats their employees like family, it doesn't show in their interview practices.
- What makes you want to join loanDepot?
Mortgage Loan Officer
The interview process was pretty straightforward. First, there was a call to go over the job and see if I was interested. After that, I had a group interview with several VPs over Zoom due to COVID, though it's usually in person. They asked questions to everyone in turn. It can be challenging if you're not used to group interviews, and the VPs tend to put pressure on you with their questions. Despite that, it was a good experience.
- Imagine you're at a car dealership. Your task is to sell me a car.
