Project Management Office Manager
I spoke with several individuals over a six-month span. The discussions seemed to go well, and I was consistently told I was a top candidate. They also promised they wouldn't leave me hanging. After telling me the position was on temporary hold but they'd update me when it reopened and that I was a finalist, they went silent for about two months. I contacted them around the time they said they might reopen the position and was told, "The job has been filled. Oops, we thought we'd called you..."
- Could you describe the types of projects you've managed?
- Have you previously supervised other project managers?
Software Engineer
I started with a recruiter screening where they told me I needed to be an evangelical Christian to be considered. I said I was to get through it since I really needed the job. Then I interviewed with the hiring manager, who asked me about my religion and faith, which felt like discrimination. After that, I had a take-home assessment that took about 10 hours. They told me afterward that the recruiter gave me the wrong one. I did well on it, and then had a final interview with the team. I was rejected by email with no reason given.
- Can you share how your faith influences your daily work in your career?
- For how long have you identified as Christian?
- Is Lifeway curriculum used in your church?
Senior Manager
The whole interview process took like forever and they barely communicated. After I applied, I got a text 4 weeks later, then an email from HR asking for my availability for a phone screen. The phone screen was pretty basic, but I did learn more about the team and what they needed for the job. I actually liked the screening call and talking to the HR recruiter, who asked mostly faith-based questions. After that, they invited me to a video call with two senior people on the broader team. This call was mostly behavioral questions. The recruiter did mention early on that the process might take longer than usual because of fast growth. And yeah, the recruiter mostly texted. After the video call with the senior leaders, I heard nothing for a few weeks. So I messaged the recruiter about the status and what was next. No quick reply. A few more weeks passed and I got a text asking if I could meet with the executive of the team that same week. I rearranged my schedule because I was still interested. The meeting with the executive seemed to go well, like we both liked each other. But since then, no updates, not even a rejection email. Honestly, considering how long I spent on this and talking to so many people, I expected better from any professional place, especially a Christian one. Even though everyone was nice, it doesn't make up for being so slow with communication and wasting my time. I get that their HR might be stretched thin with all the growth, but a super long interview process (like 4-6 months!) with barely any communication is just bad business. Lifeway should be embarrassed by this process.
- Can you share an instance where you had to manage an employee who was difficult to work with, and describe how you handled that specific situation?
Store Associate
I applied online and then got an email for an interview with the store manager. The interview was about 30 minutes long. The manager said he'd let me know within a week, and I haven't heard back yet. The next step involves signing paperwork and presenting a blank check. They need someone willing to work Black Friday and one day a year for inventory until 2 a.m. A flexible schedule is required since all associates are part-time and hours change based on availability and sales volume. Stores usually close at 8 p.m. but later for holidays, and are closed on Sundays. Still waiting to hear about an offer. The pay isn't great and requires working evenings and Saturdays.
- Tell me about your education, past work experience, and availability.
- He asked about my salvation.
- How would your teachers and supervisors describe you?
