Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lidl.
Management Trainee
The interview process began with an online application. Then, there was a phone screening, and finally, an in-person assessment day. The assessment day included individual interviews, case studies, and group exercises. These activities were designed to assess leadership skills and problem-solving abilities. The whole process was structured and professional. They clearly explained what the role entailed. HR communicated well and kept me updated throughout the recruitment.

Business Manager
I applied online and heard back a couple weeks later. The interviews were quick, just two. First was online, second in-person at Lidl's offices in Tallaght. The second interview required a 15-minute presentation. They said I'd know in 1-2 weeks. After 10 days, we got a generic email saying things were delayed and we'd hear back early the next week. Still nothing by Thursday, so I emailed them. Turns out I didn't get it. The HR person was apparently back from leave and catching up. I asked for feedback but never got any. It was pretty disappointing. Spending 15 minutes on a presentation feels like a lot of work for nothing. It's disrespectful to expect so much and then not give feedback or even a follow-up.
- What is your motivation for wanting to join Lidl?
Manager
I submitted my application online and after 3 weeks, HR called me for a 30min initial screening over the phone. It was a good experience. A week later, I had my first interview with the hiring manager via TEAMS. It was scheduled for an hour but went on for almost 90 minutes. Great experience. Another week passed before I was notified about the next round, and then I waited 2 more weeks for the final interview schedule. I met with C Level execs who thoroughly reviewed my past employment but didn't ask any technical questions. I had a lukewarm feeling about it. They seemed upset to find out I founded and ran my own company in one of my past roles. Two more weeks later, HR called to tell me they decided to go with an internal candidate. I really wonder why they wasted everyone's time. My advice: keep asking why they didn't just fill the position internally to avoid wasting your time. The whole process took over 2 months.
