Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lidl.
Student Worker
The interview went pretty well overall. It was for a student job, so it wasn’t anything big or complicated. The interview was super straightforward and to the point, which made the whole thing feel comfortable. The manager was nice and easy to talk to, making the atmosphere relaxed. I didn’t run into any problems during the interview, and everything was clear and smooth from start to finish.
- Have you had any previous experience in this kind of job?
Intern
I applied for several internships, including at big companies like the Big Four. I got invited to some interviews, which were quite relaxed and mostly involved typical standard questions about myself. However, at Lidl, it was completely different: I had to work on an example project before the actual interview and then present it. Of course, you should prepare for an interview, but having to complete a whole project before even meeting for the first time seems a bit excessive, especially when you're applying for an internship.
- For the department, it seemed more important that I present my example project than that I introduce myself or talk about my strengths and weaknesses.
Intern
The interview followed a guideline for about half of it. Standard questions were asked, like 'Why do you want to work at this company?' and 'What are your strengths?'. The other half of the interview involved many follow-up questions about my resume and past experiences. They also asked multiple times why I made certain decisions in specific ways. Overall, it felt quite in-depth for an internship, but all the questions were justified.
- Why do you want to study abroad?
