I originally applied for Lidl on their website, which had really generic questions about personal details, my CV, availability, and the contract I wanted. I heard back quickly and was asked to book a phone interview. The recruitment and HR teams were super efficient and communicative, which was good. Then I had an in-person interview where the manager was a bit late, but he was nice and thorough. The communication from the store itself though was really bad. I was asked about my experience, what I wanted in a job, and some questions about teamwork and deadlines. They said I'd hear back in 48 hours. I waited a few days and emailed recruitment to chase it up. They were prompt again and chased it up, saying the store manager wasn't around. I then got an email from recruitment saying I was successful and needed to fill in right to work stuff. The next day they asked if the store manager had spoken to me about a start date, but still nothing from the store. I was told I was meant to start on Oct 2nd. I emailed straight back saying I couldn't do that because of uni, and then I had to call recruitment again. Another store manager got in touch a few days later saying my induction had to be on a Thursday because that was their only slot. I explained I can't do Thursdays because of uni, which I'd already said in the interview. I rang recruitment again and they told me I was actually meant to start on the 9th. When I said again I couldn't do a Thursday, they said someone would call me. I got my contract on Oct 1st but waited to hear from the store manager before signing. The only time the store manager contacted me was on Oct 9th, asking if I was coming in. I replied explaining I was at uni all day. Today, HR called me to say the store manager had been trying to reach me, which was confusing. I obviously kept looking for other jobs and have now declined this one, and I'll be avoiding this company.

had a screening call that went well, then went to an interview instore. They denied I even showed up, obviously don't know what they're doing. The interviewer came across badly, kept talking down and impolitely. I did complain and asked for an explanation, but they have no contact phone numbers. Even on the 'how did we do on the interview' form, I asked for a response, but still no reply.

I applied online and got a call within a week for a quick 5-minute phone chat from Lidl recruitment. They asked about general retail work, my background, and one scenario question. They then invited me for an in-store interview, giving me dates for the next few days. The attire was smart/casual. I went to the store's office for the face-to-face interview with the store and area managers. It was friendly and relaxed. Questions were easy, mostly common retail knowledge, about myself, and my work experience. The store manager showed me around the warehouse, bakery, and shop floor. About 2 days later, they called to offer me the job. The whole process from applying to getting the job took about a week. After getting the job, there's a welcome event within two weeks, then a start date about a week later, followed by 4-6 weeks of in-store training with hands-on tasks and using an iPad for modules.
