First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Liberty Mutual Insurance.
Software Engineer Intern
I had a 30-minute recruiter call to go over logistics and some easy behavioral questions. After that, I had a 1-hour technical interview with two engineers where I was asked an easy LeetCode question involving hashmaps. The output format tripped me up a bit. It took about two weeks to hear back after each interview.
- Tell me about how you learned a programming language.
Software Engineer Intern
I applied through the Women In Summit Program. The interview started with a recruiter intro call where they asked about my background, my proficiencies in different languages, and some basic questions on resolving conflict and how I learn new programming languages. Then there was a technical interview. It was about 10-15 minutes of behavioral questions, focusing on facing conflict and how to resolve it, and a 'tell me about yourself' question. After that, there were 2 technical questions: the first was about debugging a line of code, and the second was to implement sorting by frequency in descending order.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a conflict and how you managed to resolve it?
Software Engineer
So the first interview was basically a behavioral one. They wanted me to introduce myself, talk about a situation where I worked with others who had differing technical opinions, and share an experience about resolving a conflict. They also asked how my main programming language affects how I debug or code. After that, they inquired about my preferred area within tech (like cybersecurity, devops, backend, frontend, or fullstack) to see where I could fit in a team. Unfortunately, I didn't get to the next stage lol.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Describe a time you collaborated with individuals holding different technical viewpoints.
- Share an instance where you had to resolve a conflict.
