The first interview was basically a check to see if I met the basic requirements. It was a good experience, and the interviewer was really cool and made me more interested in the company because of how laid-back they were.

The interview process included a 90-minute online assessment, followed by one phone interview and three in-person interviews. I also completed a job shadow and a call shadow. The hiring managers were impressed and wanted to hire me quickly due to my background and experience, especially since I had a referral. However, the background check resulted in a denial because of a common credit issue that happened after a relationship ended. Liberty Mutual's policy is to make hiring decisions based on credit, which they should disclose upfront given the length of their process. My job history and performance documentation are strong, and even the recruiter found the policy counterproductive. I believe credit checks are a flawed form of discrimination and should be eliminated, especially for a role like selling insurance that doesn't require a security clearance.

Behavioral Technical Case

I got referred by someone I know to apply for an Agent role at Liberty Mutual. Some people say mixed things about working there, but I needed a switch and they seem like a good place to start a business. I filled out the application through the referral link. A recruiter reached out and we chatted for a bit. She pretty much told me I had to do an online assessment test, which took about 90 minutes. The test had some math, business questions, and a ton of personality stuff to check if I was honest and consistent. A few days later, the same recruiter called again to set up a phone interview with an HR Rep. The phone interview was around 45 minutes. They asked all the typical interview questions, plus more sales-focused ones like 'name a sale you're proud of,' 'tell me about relationships you've made and why they're important,' and 'how do you plan to build your own business with the company?' Then they spent about 10 minutes explaining the job. The HR rep said he thought I'd be a good fit and that I should expect a call in the next day or two to schedule an in-person interview with the hiring manager. I never heard back, so I guess they found someone else.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Tell me about a sales relationship you have, how it started, how you've maintained it, and why you're proud of it.
