I applied for this internal role through the company's career site, expecting a faster process since I was already an employee. The recruiter contacted me a week after I applied. I had already chatted with the hiring manager informally, but then had the first official interview, which was mostly behavioral questions and a resume review. It was about 30 minutes over the phone. Then, three weeks went by, and I emailed the hiring manager to see about a timeline. Another week later, I nudged the recruiter about the timeline. The hiring manager then emailed me back, saying her team got swamped, and scheduled another round. Because of the holidays, this interview ended up being scheduled over a month later. The final round was a 3-hour video call with four different managers. They all asked pretty much the same questions repeatedly, which felt really redundant. In the end, I didn't get an offer. The hiring manager sent a one-sentence email saying they wanted someone with more experience. I was confused because we'd been talking for three months, and she knew my experience level from the beginning. I suspect they took so long with the process out of courtesy since I was an employee, but it was a huge waste of my time. The interview itself wasn't super hard, but it took way too long, especially for an internal job. Honestly, I'm kind of glad they didn't offer me the job in the end.

I applied online and heard back a few weeks later for a phone interview. I had a good conversation with the recruiter about my background and some behavioral questions. I was then invited for an in-person interview for an underwriting position, which went well but they hired internally. The HR department was great though and saw I could fit elsewhere. The recruiter then referred me for a business analyst role and I got an offer after a Skype interview. My advice is to be personable. A lack of experience can be a disadvantage, but being genuine, kind, respectable, and knowledgeable can help. Also, know about the insurance industry, not just the company, but the issues relevant to it like underwriting, sales vs. profit, and types of insurance.
