The interview process had three parts: a first screening, a technical interview, and a final interview with the manager. Everything went well in each round, and I got really good feedback. But, after putting in a lot of time and work, they told me they went with someone from inside the company. I get that they might prefer internal people, but it was a bummer not to know earlier in the process. It felt like my time wasn't respected, and more openness would make things better for candidates.

I had an HR screen first, and then an interview for the marketing position. The interviewer wasn't super friendly and was kind of abrupt at the end. After the second interview, I waited about a month for an update and never heard back. I ended up calling the HR person to check on things. They told me the job was filled and to watch for new openings. I think it's pretty insensitive to not contact a candidate for 4 weeks after a second interview, especially with how the job market is right now. It probably says something about how they treat their employees too. I'd be really careful about accepting a job offer from a company that treats you like just a number. Really disappointed.

I interviewed with the hiring manager and the director for that business unit, and it went well. Then HR contacted me, calling several times with no messages. I called back to confirm and left a message with the HR partner. I got a return call during rush hour when I was in the car and couldn't talk. This was when the HR partner decided to leave a message, which I didn't see because I wasn't expecting a message. To my surprise, the phone interview was switched to an in-person interview, which I missed. I apologized and rescheduled. The interview with the HR partner was okay, covering the job basics as she saw them. The tasks I discussed with the hiring manager and the HR person were very different. The HR partner also shared her ideas on how the job should be done and what they'd do if it were their role, plus mentioned that the job responsibilities change often due to reorganizations. I knew Lexis reorganizes regularly, and in this economy, I'd be shocked to find a company that doesn't. The HR partner stressed this several times, though. I then met with another employee in the group, and we had a good chat about the job aspects, the company's perception, and the work/responsibility level. I really liked meeting her. After sending thank you notes, the hiring manager got back to me. Apparently, HR was pretty annoyed about the interview mix-up and suggested not hiring me. My take is, if the hiring manager wants to hire me, and I haven't lied or failed a background check, HR should be helping, not making it harder to hire the person the hiring manager wants.
