Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith.
Attorney
I had an in-person interview where I met with three different partners, each specializing in a different practice area. They asked typical interview questions, focusing mostly on my previous litigation experience. There was also quite a bit of casual conversation mixed in between the questions.
- How comfortable are you taking on cases with little to no supervision?
Associate Attorney
I was contacted by someone after applying on LinkedIn, though I had forgotten about the application by then. The interviewer was very friendly and the conversation was quite relaxed. I spoke with a junior partner for about 30 minutes. After the interview, they requested my writing sample. They also mentioned a minimum of 2100 billable hours, which is on the higher side. While I enjoyed the interview, I wasn't overly impressed with the firm. They never followed up, and neither did I, so it seems it was a mutual lack of interest. If you're waiting to hear back, I'd suggest following up as their recruitment process doesn't seem very organized. Overall, it was a positive experience.
- Can you discuss your professional background?
- Could you please provide your writing sample?
- What is your perspective on the firm's minimum billable hours requirement of 2100?
Attorney
It was tough to get replies from the Partner handling the section I applied for. Some months went by without any response, then they'd show interest because my background was a good fit and I knew people hired there with similar experience, but my emails would again go unanswered. I actually got to an interview once, my references were checked and they seemed keen to proceed, but then there was silence. It was really frustrating to not know where I stood. I eventually stopped trying.
- What is your experience with trials?
- Have you served as first chair in jury trials?
