First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lemonade Insurance.
Product Manager
I talked to HR first, and then the hiring manager. The hiring manager was on video. It was a bit of an unusual interview because we didn't really go over my past experience. Instead, they wanted to hear my thoughts on how to improve the insurance industry, particularly for renters and car insurance. It felt more like they were seeking new ideas than conducting a typical interview.
- What changes would you propose for the insurance sector?
Product Manager
I had a 1-hour interview which was nice and structured. Then I got a take-home assignment. I put a lot of time into my presentation and submitted it. A few days later, I got rejected because my work lacked depth in the insurance sector. I get it, I'm not from insurance. But it would have been better to find this out earlier. This felt like a waste of my time and effort. The process wasn't respectful. If insurance knowledge was a must-have, they should have checked that at the start. I hope they change how they screen for fit before asking for big take-home tasks.
- Can you suggest ways to improve car insurance?
Product Manager
The interview process was simple and straightforward. I really enjoyed the case study part because it helped me get a better understanding of the company and also show off my skills. After the case study, the HR team's communication was good and they followed up well.
- What improvements would you suggest for the current product?
