Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Leeds City Council.
Administrative
The interview process involved online questions and submission of a cover letter instead of a CV. The interview itself was a panel with three interviewers who asked general questions about yourself, your work experience, and what you could contribute to the team.
- Could you introduce yourself and explain your interest in this specific position?
- Describe your relevant work experience.
- What unique value can you offer to our team?
Administrative Assistant
The interview process involved discussing data confidentiality and LCC values. There was also a brief 15-minute written test where I had to identify grammatical and spelling mistakes, and then write a short notice using provided information.
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with confidential or sensitive information.
- In your own words, what do Leeds City Council’s values signify to you?
- Could you share an instance where you were faced with a tight deadline? How did you handle it?
Administrative Assistant
I applied online and was invited to a JobShop event. There, I had to do an assessment testing my Excel, Word, and admin prioritization skills. The tasks were pretty simple, like copying a Google image into a Word document, and I had 30 minutes for 8 tasks. After waiting two weeks for them to score my assessment, I received an interview invitation for the following week. The interview was face-to-face and quite enjoyable because the people were very nice. I heard back about the outcome about a week later, though they mentioned it would normally be sooner but was delayed due to staff sickness.
- What attracts you to this Council?
- How would you handle customer interactions and explain their importance?
- Can you give an instance where you excelled working independently and also as part of a team?
