& Process

So there were 3 rounds. First, a 30 min phone screen. Then, a 1.5 hour Zoom call with different teams. Finally, a presentation of a data set analysis. I got to the last round, but I dropped out after spending over 10 hours of my PTO working on the presentation. Just 15 mins before my interview, they asked me to redo my whole presentation saying they had 'never seen it done like this before'. The whole thing was super stressful and felt like a bad sign for the job (high stress, no work life balance). Also, it felt like they wanted me to basically create their own software from scratch, which seemed impossible.

Had a quick call with the head of the department which I thought went well, especially since we had similar backgrounds and goals. I was moved on to a few panel interviews that I also thought went well but was then informed afterwards that I wouldn't be moving forward to the presentation part of the interview process. Honestly, they did me a favor. After seeing how much time others have had to work on that presentation only to be torn down professionally, I'm glad I didn't waste any more time that I did - which was probably around 3-4 hours. I reached out to those who interviewed me for feedback and the ones that did respond, said I was recommended for the role by them but the ultimate decision was to pass by higher-ups. I heard they went with some lesser experienced people so it may have been salary-related decisions. Either way, if you interview, be prepared to have an exciting cheer ready to go because even if you think you're showing excitement for the role, chances are it's not enough for them.

It kicked off with a 30-minute screener chat with the hiring manager to go over my basic experience. Then, there were 4 back-to-back 45-minute interviews, which they called a "virtual onsite," with other managers and people on the team. These interviews mostly looked at my project management skills, how I communicate with executives, and my analytical thinking. Overall, it was a really professional, solid, and smooth interview experience.
