I had a phone and webchat interview with a vice president and a software engineer. It involved solving a brain teaser, which was tough over the phone. They initially said I could control the screen, but that didn't happen. Then, they asked 3 situational questions like 'tell me about a time you couldn't keep a promise or equipment' and 'what did you do'. The interviewers seemed a bit quiet and lacked enthusiasm.

So I got a call from HR, and they set up a phone interview with me. It was with HR and I think it went well. They asked me some basic questions about my background and what I want to do in my career. They also hit me with a few technical questions: What is a virtual constructor? What is polymorphism? What is the big o time of inserting an element into the front of a linked list and a vector? What is the difference between a stack and a queue? After that, they sent me a programming exercise and a problem solving exercise, which I thought the programming one was pretty easy. About two weeks after I submitted everything, I got an email saying there wasn't a position that really fit my skills.

I applied through the college career center and was contacted for a 30-minute phone interview. It involved some easy skills questions, then a take-home programming and problem-solving assignment. After that, there was an onsite interview that lasted about half a day with two interviewers. This included more questions and some on-the-spot programming and problem-solving tasks, which I'm not sure is a great way to assess people. Everyone seemed friendly but lacked enthusiasm, and the office environment was drab. The owner was present and ate with everyone. The recruiter mentioned a flat organizational structure, suggesting limited advancement opportunities.

  • Could you solve this problem and write a program in Visual Basic?
