Process Engineer
The interview was for the role of Graduate Apprentice Trainee. The process included general questions from the chemical engineering domain, primarily focusing on the Designing and instrumentation parts, along with the basics of chemical engineering.
- Can you describe the different types of valves and their uses in various situations?
- What is LMTD?
- What is heat flux?
Process Engineer
While I was taking a fundamental process test, they interviewed me at the same time. I have 8 years of experience in this type of role, and the test was easy, but I took it as an insult to my character and intelligence.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Process Engineer
First, there was a 30 min call with HR. I told them I had other deadlines so they hurried things up and booked me for an on-site. The on-site day had 7 interviews with different managers/engineers, mostly behavioral. A current process engineer gave me a tour of the site and I had lunch with the team. Booking travel was easy and I got reimbursed quickly. They even let me stay an extra night to see the area. I turned down the offer because it was too far from a big city. It seemed like I would have to work about 50 hours a week, and adding an hour commute each way felt like too much. Everyone seemed like good people to work with, but the job would require me to do many different things since it's a smaller company. The base salary was about average for the area ($95k + 5% bonus target). It was pretty much impossible to work remotely.
- Given a hypothetical troubleshooting problem with a process system, how would you go about figuring out the root cause?
- Can you explain the working of a pump?
- How does a distillation column operate?
