Lands' End Designer Interview Questions
& Process

I had one phone interview, mostly asking about my personality and background. Then, about two weeks later, I had an onsite interview. I met with 5 designers from different areas one-on-one. This let me present to each of them. About 3 weeks after that, I had a second onsite interview, this time with the Design Director, where I again presented my portfolio. I got an offer a few weeks after that.

A Recruiter reached out via email and we scheduled a phone interview. I sent her some work samples beforehand. During the call, she was friendly and professional. We discussed what the Hiring Manager wanted in work samples, so I made some adjustments and sent them back that evening. The next day, she confirmed they'd have a project for me by the end of the week. I got the project on Friday as promised. The Recruiter checked in the following Monday to ensure everything was okay, and I mentioned I planned to submit the project by Wednesday evening. I submitted it late Wednesday, and early Thursday morning, they contacted me to arrange my on-site interview trip to WI. I coordinated with another HR manager in WI to plan my travel dates and duration, opting for a 2-night stay and arriving a day early to explore Madison. I even got to pick my NYC airport, which was a nice perk. All my travel arrangements were accommodated easily, and I received all the necessary paperwork. The HR Manager mentioned she'd send maps and a schedule by the end of the next week, which she did. The week before my visit, the Recruiter emailed to express excitement about my upcoming trip and offered assistance with any questions or needs. For the on-site visit itself, the HR team member I'd worked with greeted me and led me to a comfortable room outside her office where I'd meet with various team members. I had received a schedule beforehand and met with several designers and team members individually at specific times. This one-on-one format was really valuable for getting to know each person and felt comfortable staying in one place. The interviews stayed on schedule, and I gained a clear understanding of the company, the specific team, and how things operated. I also left knowing exactly what they were looking for. Afterward, I was given a tour of the Comer Center, which was impressive. I left the campus on time feeling very positive about the experience and everyone I met. People were very open to discussing not only the job and the work but also personal aspects like relocating and living in Madison. The original Recruiter followed up that afternoon, and we agreed to speak the next morning. We talked about how the interviews went, and she indicated she would submit the offer for review. This was on a Wednesday. The following Thursday, I received the official offer letter. She stayed in touch throughout that week, as the process took a bit longer than initially expected. I'm now starting the relocation process with a specialized company, and so far, everything is progressing smoothly. Overall, the Lands' End interview process was great, especially compared to recent unprofessional and negative interview experiences I've had. I hope this review is helpful for others considering Lands' End, particularly those relocating from NYC or other cities. And Madison is a fantastic city!
