So, I had two technical interviews. The first one was all about coding, Node.js, and React stuff. The second one was a deep dive into system design. The coding round went okay, but the system design round was pretty tough. The interviewer wanted me to talk about my project, so I explained the Admin Configuration module, which is this part of the system that doesn't change much and has four tables that are all linked up. But then, he pushed hard on splitting it into a distributed system, even though it's just a simple update. I tried to tell him we could totally manage it fine with just one API and a database transaction, but he wasn't having any of it or didn't seem interested in why I thought that. Honestly, for system design, I feel like they should either give you the problem clearly and let you figure it out, or ask a common question like designing Flipkart. Making someone redesign their own work without really getting the full picture just doesn't seem like a fair way to judge.

I had a face-to-face interview on the weekend, scheduled for 12:30 PM but starting at 2:30 PM. The first round went well, got positive feedback. The second round was supposed to be same day but got postponed due to a production issue. They said it would be rescheduled for Monday but it never happened. HR stopped responding and after two weeks, I got a rejection email. Why do you waste candidates’ entire day calling them for an in-person interview when things are not properly planned or communicated? We take time out of our schedules and show up respectfully, but the least we deserve is proper communication — even if it’s just a rejection.

The interview process involved a coding round, followed by two technical rounds, then a manager round, and finally an HR round. The first technical round was meant to check core technical skills and coding ability through live discussion. It could be virtual or in-person with a software engineer or team lead. We covered programming fundamentals in languages like PHP and JavaScript, and problem-solving using live coding on platforms like CoderPad. For more experienced roles, we also touched on system design basics. An example task was optimizing a database query or refactoring code.
