First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Landing.
Software Engineer
I had a few interviews: first, a technical recruiter called to talk about the job and my basic technical skills. Then, I spoke with the VP of Engineering about my background and how I'd fit. After that, a panel from different departments met me to see how I work on the software development lifecycle and with others. Lastly, I interviewed with the lead of the team I might join.
- Can you describe your problem-solving and solution design approach?
Senior Software Engineer
Started with a phone screen with an internal recruiter. Then I had to submit a short answer questionnaire and a code sample. After that, a senior engineer reviewed my answers and code sample. This was followed by a series of 4 video calls with people from engineering and design. Finally, I had a video call with the VP of Engineering.
- We had thought-provoking discussions with various members of engineering teams about my own software engineering philosophy, how I like to work, manage change, and how I approach new projects and features.
Software Engineer
It was a really weird interview. They didn't really ask that many technical questions, mostly behavioral. I never actually wrote code with anyone on the team. First, I had a technical phone screen with the recruiter. Then, I had to submit answers to a few questions about my past software engineering work and also provide a code sample. After that, I had a one-on-one chat with one of their engineers where we just talked about my experience and the tech I've used. The last part was a three-hour virtual onsite with people from different teams. They asked me two simple Javascript questions, but that was it for technical stuff. The VP of engineering was supposed to be there but left halfway through for a personal thing, leaving me waiting for 10 minutes. It felt super unprofessional. A few days later, I got a standard rejection email with no feedback at all.
