Inside Sales Representative
The hiring process moved very fast and was short. They made me feel comfortable asking questions about daily tasks and if I was a good fit for the company and if they were a good fit for me.
- Can you describe a situation where you received feedback and how you used it?
Sales Representative
I was reached out to by a recruiter familiar with the company who thought I'd be a good fit because they were seeking an experienced sales representative with a history of success and longevity (14 years). I agreed to a phone interview on a Friday evening (7pm EST / 4pm their time) before heading out on vacation. The interview started rough as the 'recruitment specialist' called my cell instead of my home phone. She spoke very quickly, making it hard to follow, and I learned she'd only been with the company for 3 weeks, which I found unprofessional. She asked standard questions like why I was looking for a new role, my daily tasks, and my prospecting methods. She then spoke for a long time about the company and its culture. What was supposed to be a 20-30 minute call turned into an hour-long screening. I asked a few questions, and that was it. I later found out I didn't get past this round because the 'recruitment specialist' didn't perceive 'passion' in my sales approach within the first 10 minutes. This was surprising given my 14+ years in sales and positive recommendations on my LinkedIn profile. The Lakeshore employee also mentioned they received many applications, and I've seen the job reposted multiple times online, which suggests they're still looking.
- Tell me about a typical day in your role.
Sales Representative
The interview process kicked off with a quick 3-minute recruiter phone screen. After that, I had a phone screen with the hiring manager where they asked more direct questions about my background and my motivation for the role. This was followed by a 30-minute live 1:1 meeting with the hiring manager, which covered pretty much the same topics. Finally, I had a phone screen with one of the Presidents, where we went over the same basic resume questions and discussed why I'd be a good fit.
- How would you engage with individuals from significantly different socioeconomic backgrounds than your own?
