First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lake Partners.
Analyst
The interview process involved market sizing and brainstorming cases, some of which were in unfamiliar industries. The interviews were a mix of behavioral and case questions, with additional questions at the end. The interviewers were very friendly. There were two virtual case interviews, followed by an in-person interview on site.
- Can you tell me about your resume?
- Could you introduce yourself?
Strategy Analyst
The first round had 2 interviews. They started with some behavior questions like 'why consulting' and 'why small boutique firm,' then moved into a case interview. The case interviews were pretty standard, but you need to pay attention to a lot of details.
- Why are you interested in consulting?
- Describe your ability to perform when under pressure.
- What makes you want to work for a small, boutique firm specifically?
Associate
It started with two Zoom interviews with an associate and analyst, which were a mix of case and behavioral questions. Then, I flew out to Seattle for two more case interviews with partners. The case interviews focused on less common industries and really made me think deeply about research methods and implementation, in ways that MBB cases don't usually cover. The math wasn't super hard but you had to be quick. The final partner cases were really open-ended, almost confusing sometimes. But everyone was super nice and the firm's hospitality was great.
- Can you tell me why you're interested in Seattle?
- What draws you to Lake Partners specifically?
- Why did you decide to pursue consulting?
Strategy Consultant
The interview process included 2 virtual case interviews, then an on-site case interview and lunch with the partners/team. I'm from a non-traditional consulting background, so I had to prepare extensively from scratch for the case interviews and managed to get to the second round. My first two interviews were with senior analysts who seemed disinterested and tried to make the situations as pressurized as possible. Both interviews covered various case types, like profitability, market sizing, and outsourcing. My advice is to ask good clarifying questions and not limit yourself to MBB frameworks.
