They responded fast, and they're often looking for people. When I applied though, they were already swamped with interviews. I bet they'll get to you eventually. It was a super simple apply process when I did it.

Applied on the LA County website for RN I/Relief Nurse position. Took about 3 months. They do testing in batches and you have to pass a deductive reasoning/critical thinking test, which has non-nursing questions. After passing, you're put on an eligibility list for a year. You can call nurse recruitment for hospitals you want to work at and ask about RN I vacancies. I got an interview after calling about openings. LAC+USC hires in batches. You go into a big conference room and check-in. Nurse managers interview people in the back while you wait in front. When your name is called, you sit with two nurse managers. They look at your resume and ask pre-printed questions like 'tell me about yourself' and 'tell me of a time when...'. They called same day to say I got the job.

If you get called in for an interview, you've basically got the job. It's a group interview that also serves as a mini-orientation and a chance for the volunteer coordinator to get to know you. They really need as many volunteers as they can get, but they repeatedly emphasize that it's a very demanding and sometimes gory job, sharing cautionary tales of people fainting. However, the current volunteer staff is very friendly. Their main goal is to ensure you can handle the nature of the work. If you meet the application requirements, you're in.

It was a quick interview, real straight to the point. I had to fill out some paperwork, then they took me to this big conference room where they were doing interviews. I sat across from two nurse managers and they hit me with 10 questions total - 2 were scenario-based and 8 were behavioral. The whole thing wrapped up in about 20 minutes. Got a call that same afternoon with an offer for the ED position.
