It was a typical interview, sitting at a table in the dining area. They asked me a few things about my background. It was pretty easy and didn't take long, maybe 15 to 20 minutes. Nothing out of the ordinary happened.

I arrived 5 minutes early for my interview, but the interviewer was several minutes late. The interview included standard questions and concluded with the typical 'why should I hire you?' prompt. It was held in the lobby near the front desk, not in a private area. The interviewer explained that front desk agents are expected to manage the front desk, do laundry, mop floors, and clean rooms after guests leave, all for $16 an hour.

The manager was super busy when I got there, even though I was 5 minutes early. I waited patiently. She was professional and explained the job. I've got 18 years of customer service experience, but she acted like I didn't know what it was, even after I told her about my previous CSM roles. She was friendly, but I got the vibe she was annoyed and felt like I was bothering her, like she had somewhere else to be.

I got there a bit before my interview time, and the general manager who was supposed to interview me was late. He started out by asking me about my college education, which I found a bit odd and not really relevant for a housekeeping job. He then asked some general questions, it seemed like he was just reading them from a sheet. He asked why I wanted the job, who my favorite previous boss was and why, what I'd do if I saw someone clocking in for another person, and what I'd do if asked to work extra time without getting paid. Then he asked if I had any questions for him. It was all pretty standard and not too tough. I asked about the work environment and what a typical day would look like. He explained my duties and talked about the benefits. He said he'd decide by Friday and call me, but also gave me his card and told me to call him on Friday. I sent a thank you note and called on Friday since I hadn't heard from him, as he suggested. He didn't pick up, so I left a message. I never got a call back, which was a bit surprising since I felt the interview went well and I did everything I could. The manager seemed like he'd be a good boss, and the other staff I met seemed happy working there.
