Right after I applied, I got an automatic message to set up an interview time. I got to the restaurant a bit early, and let someone know I was there. About 20 minutes after my scheduled time, a manager came over and gave me a paper application to fill out, saying he'd be back in 15 minutes. While I was filling it out, he stood nearby and made small talk. He finally sat down to interview me 25 minutes past my appointment time. The questions were standard, and it went pretty well. He mentioned a second interview with the general manager and then left for another 5-10 minutes. The general manager then came over, looking tired, and told me about the job and the pay. She said to call her in the next two days if I wanted to proceed. The whole thing took about an hour.

I applied over a month ago and the manager met me, looked at my application, and scheduled an interview for a few days later. I arrived on time and waited ten minutes for a quick five-minute interview which went okay. She then set up a second interview with another manager for the following week. It was the same routine, waiting fifteen minutes for a very short interview where he asked two questions and then gave me a card telling me to call them if I didn't hear back about an offer. A few days later, I called and was put on hold for an hour and 45 minutes before I hung up. The next day I called again and spoke to a manager who said the hiring manager was out for four days and things were on hold. I was patient, but after five more days with no response, I called again. The hiring manager said they were still interviewing (which I hadn't heard about) and thought I was a top candidate, expecting to hear back in a week. Five days later, still nothing. I had to call again and was treated rudely by the same manager, who repeated they were still interviewing and would call if they decided to hire me. This was over two weeks after the last interview. I was annoyed not only by the lack of response but also by having to call multiple times while they kept me waiting and never gave me a clear rejection. I've heard the same hold music so many times. It felt really disrespectful and unprofessional. It's been over a month with no clear answer, so I'm done. Just reject people if you don't want them. I won't be doing business there anymore.
- Can you explain your interest in la Madeleine?
- How would your friends or coworkers describe you?
General Manager
After passing some initial tests, I had my first interview. This involved visiting a location to see if I liked the environment. Then, a second interview took place where they evaluated my visit and asked for my feedback and suggestions for improvement. They emphasized that attitude is crucial, especially in customer-facing roles, more so than expertise with a poor attitude.
- What makes you feel La Madeleine would be a good match for you?
Manager
The interview experience was generally easy-going and comfortable. Having relevant experience and knowledge, and knowing how to handle certain situations, makes the interview process smoother. A passion for the job also contributes to a positive experience.
- Can you share an instance where you, as a manager, faced a confusing situation and describe how you managed it?
