After applying online, I got a call from the general manager about two days later to set up an in-person interview at the gym. I checked in at the front desk and waited about 10 minutes before meeting the manager in an office. The interview was one-on-one, about 25 to 30 minutes long. It was pretty informal but focused on my sales background, if I liked fitness, and if I'd be okay with membership quotas and doing outreach. The manager said the job involves cold calling, walk-ins, and sometimes promoting memberships outside the gym. They also talked about the commission structure and monthly targets. I was told I'd hear back in a few days.

The interview process was quick and easy. The manager was nice and gave me a lot of information. She interviewed me while I was sitting behind the sales rep desk. The interview was pretty informal. The dress code isn't strict, so wearing tights and a t-shirt would be perfectly fine.

So, the company docks commissions from sales associates for really small reasons. If you don't fill out the member sign-up form perfectly, they won't pay you your commission, even if it's correctable. They still sign up the members and collect their monthly fees, though. It's basically like they get you to sign up all your friends and family for the first 3 months, which is how they make most of their money. The average employee only lasts about 3 months!
