Customer Service Representative
The hiring process was a bit unusual. They start by emailing you to schedule a call to set up the interview. When you arrive for the interview, expect to wait for at least an hour before being seen. After that, you'll be taken to a cubicle. If they decide to offer you the job, they move you to a different room for paperwork, and then to a nurse for a health screening. After that, you won't hear back until your start date, which is usually about a month after the interview.

So, you start out as a seasonal rep, applications are usually up in July for fall. After applying online, they'll call you and if you pass, you get an interview invite to Freeport. It's about an hour, includes the interview and processing if they offer you the job. They show you a quick video about customer satisfaction calls. Then they ask about your idea of customer service and how you'd handle customer questions. They also check your computer skills - can you open programs, switch between them, use dropdowns, browse the web, and email? Basic computer stuff like copy/paste is helpful. If you get an offer, you do the paperwork: photo, citizenship check, a health inquiry, and some basic HR training like on sexual harassment. Basically, just be nice and good. Then you go home with your start date for training and a number to call if things change. About two weeks before training, a Job Coach calls to confirm. Training is around 40 hours and covers the ordering system, product info, courtesy, policies, and using resources. After training, you'll work about 6-18 hours a week until after Thanksgiving, then it's 40+ hours until Dec 18. First-year folks usually finish then. If you want to come back, rehiring is usually a phone call and you get a date for rehire training, which is about 2 days. About half the seasonal staff get rehired. Second-year reps might work until late Jan, and third-year and up usually stay till mid-Feb.

You had to travel to Freeport and wait in a waiting room. Then you waited to be called into a cubicle to meet with one interviewer. They asked simple, silly questions. If you were hired, you would then see a nurse for a very basic check-up including blood pressure, hand strength, and revealing your health history. After that, you would get your photo ID. If you re-apply each year, it can be done online. They try to make it easier each year.
- How would you handle an angry customer?
