Senior Software Engineer
After a really intense HR screen, the process moved on to behavioral and system design interviews. It seemed pretty standard overall. I think there was supposed to be another round with the CTO, but I didn't make it that far. Honestly, the vibe during the interviews wasn't the greatest.
- Can you tell me about a time using the STAR method?
- Design a URL shortening service like bit.ly, but with near real-time metrics.
- Questions related to specific domain knowledge.

I applied directly and about a week later, I had a recruiter call. Then it went like this: a recruiter call, a behavioral chat with a manager, a Leetcode style technical screen, and finally a panel interview that involved a project deep dive, more behavioral questions, and a system design. It felt like too many steps for a smaller company, which is why I'm giving it a neutral rating instead of positive, though the interviewers were all really nice and collaborative. The Leetcode screen was pretty standard, with an easy to medium question. The project deep dive was just about talking through a project I was proud of, which should be easy for most people. The behavioral part was also standard, and the design question was quite simple; I just explained my thought process and designed a scalable solution as they wanted.
- Can you tell me about a project you're particularly proud of?
- Standard behavioral questions were asked.
- Design an infinitely scalable solution.
Software Engineer
I had a phone screen with the recruiter, who was really helpful and provided a lot of info. Then, I interviewed with the Hiring Manager. He seemed like a nice guy, talked about his own experience and the role, and then asked me to briefly go over my resume. The main part of the interview was a Leetcode problem about string manipulation, which was pretty straightforward and shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes. I got a bit nervous and didn't finish as smoothly as I could have. Finally, be ready to explain your motivation for joining the company and have some questions prepared. Just maybe avoid asking too much about the Kustomer/Meta split, as he seemed a bit sensitive about that.
- Can you elaborate on some of your recent projects?
- Could you solve a common Leetcode problem involving string manipulation?
- What are your reasons for wanting to join Kustomer?
