Software Engineer
A third party technical recruiter, Experis, reached out to me and it took a week to set up an interview with four team managers. Two managers showed up for the meeting, I guess it was too early for them (8-9 AM EST). The interview was mostly back and forth about my experience and previous projects, tools and technologies. I spent about half the time asking them about the team, tools and technologies they use, and the project's history and future. There was no technical assessment or coding involved. Three hours later, I got a verbal confirmation of the offer.
- Can you discuss your past work experiences?
- Tell me about the projects you've worked on.
- What can you tell me about the teams you've been a part of?
Software Engineer
I got this cold call from a 3rd party recruiter. Then they asked me some questions that were kinda vague and only wanted true/false answers. But like, with engineering, it's never that simple, right? Most questions were like 'usually true or false, but sometimes the opposite'. I got 5 out of 7 right, I think, and moved on.
- Can you disconnect from your VPN, install this browser extension to monitor your activity, and then share your public IP address with me?
- Can you tell me some basic things about mobile platforms or where I might configure certain settings?
- Could you implement a linked list using the provided editor, which has syntax highlighting and a CLI?
Software Engineer
The interview itself was fine, but they ended up offering me less than my current salary. I let them know my minimum requirements. They responded by saying 'you're concerns are X,' as if I didn't know what my own concerns were. They thought they were being generous by increasing their offer to match my current salary, even though that didn't account for the extra costs of commuting and parking. I declined, and they seemed offended.
- What are typical interview questions for a software engineering position?
