First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kroger.
Project Manager
It was a pretty standard process: first an HR phone screen, and then an in-person interview with a panel. Just prepare as you normally would and you'll be fine.
- Can you introduce yourself?
Project Manager
I first spoke with a recruiter in August. He mentioned he doesn't usually handle PM hiring but they needed help. He said he'd pass my info to the right team, but then I heard nothing for two weeks. I followed up, and a few days later, a different recruiter reached out for my availability. Another two weeks passed with no contact, so I had to call her to check if the job was still open. She told me they were in the final hiring stages and she'd schedule me ASAP. It took a few more days to get set up with the hiring team. The hiring team then told me they were actually in the early stages of interviews, which was confusing given what the recruiter said. They expected to make a decision within two weeks, but I haven't heard back since. I emailed the recruiter again, but got no response. I then reached out to the hiring manager a week later and still haven't heard anything. My application status remains 'Under Review.' Kroger should really inform candidates of their status, regardless of the outcome. The main issue seems to be with the recruiters' communication and organizational skills.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to share bad news with a client?
IT Project Manager
Kroger is making us do this one-way video interview thing through TalentNow/Koncert. These are pretty bad because they use AI to judge behaviors, which can be biased and ableist. Apparently, one company had to turn off the AI part due to lawsuits. Most importantly, they're a waste of time. Interviews should be a two-way street, and frankly, at my 15+ years of experience, these video interviews feel like a slap in the face and a red flag about the company. The questions they ask are simple, but not really specific to my senior-level role.
- How would you assist a colleague with a task when you're facing a deadline?
- What's your approach to acquiring a new skill?
- Can you share a challenging situation you faced and how you overcame it?
