I had a technical interview with two colleagues. They asked me technical questions about company law, tax implications, and other topics mainly covered in master 1 business law courses or during CRFPA revisions.

It was a three-step interview. First, I met with the HR manager, then with the Secretary General, and finally with the lawyers involved in the cases. Each step included a part of the interview in English.

Kramer Levin uses recruiters instead of posting jobs online. A recruiter contacted me twice: first in December 2014 about an in-house immigration job (which they'd already filled), and then in April 2015 for this paralegal role. I was told it pays well and given a salary range. The recruiter mentioned it's a collegial firm where partners respect non-associate staff. I went to the office for the interview, meeting first with HR, then with two partners from the immigration group. HR was quite cold. The partners revealed the role focused mainly on PERM cases, something not mentioned earlier. The job reported to an associate based in Houston. When I asked about starting at 10 am to sync with the Houston associate, I was denied, told 9:30 am sharp was mandatory with no flexibility. No remote work option was available either; it's very inflexible. I thanked them and told my recruiter I wasn't interested. I later saw on LinkedIn that KL hired 3 people for this role in 2015 from top firms, and all 3 left within 4 months. Glad I didn't take it. Back then, Glassdoor reviews weren't negative, but it seems that's changed now.

It was pretty long. They reached out to me because I was studying at an Ivy League law school and had clerked for a judge, which they thought was cool. They asked about my involvement in different groups and associations during law school and undergrad, and also about my background, work ethic, and leadership skills.

Confirmed questions5 questions
  • Have you clerked for any judges previously?
  • What associations and groups were you part of during law school and undergrad?
  • Tell me about your background.
