First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kongsberg Gruppen.
Software Engineer
Had a prescreening interview with HR. Then a second interview with engineers where they asked some technical questions about C++ and projects I worked on. The technical questions were pretty easy, mostly about standard OOP concepts and STL library features. They also asked some networking questions about TCP and network sockets.
- Could you explain the difference between an object and a class?
- What constitutes a protected class member, and in what scenarios would its use be appropriate?
- Can you define polymorphism and describe its implementation within C++?

There's really no process here, it feels like they're just passing time under the guise of hiring. Their real intention seems to be company marketing, as they spend time explaining the company and showing a video before starting. They couldn't even play the video properly. Then, they gave a technical challenge which they couldn't resolve themselves. After that, there was an online test. Post the test, they called and informed about a technical round that needed to be attended the next day, regardless of your current work commitments. So, after attending this second round, they'll tell you the same day or the next that you've cleared it. This gives you hope that the rest of the process will wrap up in two days, as they mentioned initially. Then the HR comes into the picture. You'll start calling them, but they'll never pick up. They've achieved their goal (marketing the company). Unfortunately, you won't get anything, just lingering hope. Eventually, you'll get irritated and stop calling, but you won't hear back from them. This isn't just my experience; 2-3 of my friends faced the same. So, I strongly advise everyone not to attend any interviews with Kongsberg; they waste your time and make fake promises.
- They ask questions as if they need to build a rocket and are hiring for that specific purpose.
- Ultimately, they plan to travel to Mars with that rocket.
Software Engineer
The interview had 4 rounds: 2 technical, a managerial, and an HR round. It was a negative experience. The first technical round focused on programming, logic, and database concepts. The interviewer was good and I answered everything. The second technical round covered the same topics and also went well, with the interviewer seeming happy. The third round felt like they didn't want to hire me. The manager and HR were both there, and it felt unwelcoming. The questions were standard management and HR ones, but their attitude was poor, like they were just going through the motions. If you don't want to hire someone, don't call them in; wasting people's time isn't an achievement. Very disappointed.
- Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
